Privacy Policy

Effective May 10, 2026

1. Who We Are

The Common Interest Community Standards Council (CICSC) operates the website cic-sc.org and related digital services. References to "we," "us," or "our" mean CICSC. Our contact email is info@cic-sc.org.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

  • Account registration. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and any optional profile information you provide.
  • Payment information. Billing and payment processing is handled by Stripe. CICSC does not store credit card numbers. We retain records of transactions (amount, date, plan) for accounting purposes.
  • Usage data. We may collect anonymized information about how you use our platform — pages visited, resources accessed, and search queries — to improve our services.
  • Communications. If you contact us via email or the contact form, we retain those communications.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your CICSC member account
  • To process payments and issue receipts
  • To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, purchase receipts)
  • To send the CICSC governance newsletter, if you subscribe (you may unsubscribe at any time)
  • To improve platform content and functionality
  • To respond to support and contact requests

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the platform:

  • Clerk — authentication and identity management
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Resend — transactional email delivery
  • Vercel — hosting and infrastructure

Each provider is bound by their own privacy and data security commitments.

5. Data Retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal or accounting purposes.

6. Cookies

We use cookies for authentication session management (via Clerk) and basic analytics. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect functionality.

7. Your Rights

You may request at any time:

  • Access to the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction of inaccurate information
  • Deletion of your account and associated data
  • Unsubscription from marketing emails

To make a request, email info@cic-sc.org.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including HTTPS encryption, secure authentication via Clerk, and access controls on administrative systems. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children

Our platform is intended for adults serving in governance roles. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals under 18 years of age.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the platform. Continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
