Mission
To secure the longevity of community association governance and develop the people who serve them — by baselining the standards of the work, providing conceptual education to every stakeholder, and studying continuously what has worked and what has failed.
Community associations are governed by volunteer directors, operated by managers, and advised by professionals — a field of consequence built without a shared standard of practice. The public’s perception of these communities will not improve until the underlying competence does. CICSC exists to close that gap and to bring clarity to the fundamentals of the work.
Standards Philosophy
Governance Above Opinion
CICSC standards are grounded in governance principles, legal frameworks, and operational best practices — not personal preference or management company convenience.
Volunteer-Centered
Standards are designed for the realities of volunteer service: limited time, rotating membership, high accountability, and practical implementation requirements.
Operational Discipline
Good governance is not theory. CICSC standards are practical, implementable, and designed to produce actual operational improvement in board function.
Authority Through Accountability
Boards that govern well understand both their authority and their accountability. Both matter equally.
Continuous Improvement
CICSC standards are living documents — reviewed and revised as statutes, case law, and governance practices evolve.
Community Stewardship
Board members hold community assets in trust. CICSC standards reflect the seriousness of that responsibility.
Standards Authority
Standards are set by the CICSC Advisory Council and the practitioner advisors who inform it.
